Community HealthCorps Program

Program Objectives

The Massachusetts Community HealthCorps Program is a Massachusetts-sponsored AmeriCorps program, sponsored by community health centers, that strives to promote health care for America's underserved while developing tomorrow's health care workforce. The National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) launched Community HealthCorps in 1995 to bring national service resources to community health centers, primary care associations and other organizations that provide primary care to residents of medically underserved areas.

When selected, Community HealthCorps members are assigned to community health centers by the League. During their year of service, they are involved in various types of health-related activities such as working with pediatric patients in our childhood obesity programs, performing case management for our patients, working on activities related to the new care delivery process called the Patient Centered Medical Home, performing HIV testing and counseling, program creation and expansion, working with teens and young adults, coordinating Read Out and Read, and increasing access to care for the patients the community health centers serve.

Service Description: Community HealthCorps members are placed at health centers within the state of Massachusetts. These members perform a year of service in various types of programs. The Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers has been part of the AmeriCorps Community HealthCorps for 10 years. Our program is as diverse as the community health centers where our members serve. We have members working with children, teenagers, adults, elders, and veterans on issues related to health care. We are particularly interested in finding veterans as well as high school graduates and college graduates who are interested in performing a year of service at one of the Community Health Centers in Massachusetts. We are always seeking candidates who are bi-lingual. If you are looking for an opportunity to participate in dynamic and creative programs, then the League's Community HealthCorps program is probably and excellent fit for you.
