“Real Life
Masterpieces ~ The Art of Community Health Care” - Seven community
health center individuals and 3 statewide health care leaders were honored
by their colleagues at a June 9th annual awards gala sponsored by the
Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers (the League), a statewide association representing
and serving the needs of the Commonwealth’s 52 community health centers.
The annual event highlights the work and mission of community health
centers, which provide primary and preventive health care to one out of
every nine residents in Massachusetts.
Awardees
are nominated by their colleagues and selected by the League’s Executive
Board. Award recipients must
demonstrate exceptional dedication to the founding mission of community
health centers, which is to ensure that any patient in need, regardless of
their health status, language, culture or ability to pay, receives high
quality comprehensive primary care services.

presented the 2006 Chair's Award to Daniel H. Lasser, MD, MPH, Chair of
the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health, UMass Memorial and
UMass Medical School for his decades-long dedication to caring for
underserved populations and for his leadership in educating and nurturing
the providers that care for community health center patients.

Directors inaugurated the James W. Hunt, Jr. Scholarship which provides
support to an individual who has a strong interest in community or public
health, and is in pursuit of an undergraduate or graduate degree in a
