RECENT EVENTS
10th Annual Community Health Center Day at the State House
The Great Hall, Massachusetts State House, Boston

Community health centers – which provide primary and preventive care to one out of nine Massachusetts’ residents – held their annual Outreach and Information Day at the State House on Tuesday, May 1, 2006.

The event took place during Cover the Uninsured Week, an initiative of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and several other national and local organizations to raise awareness about the plight of uninsured individuals in Massachusetts and across the country. The health centers used the opportunity to bring attention to the recent passage of landmark legislation in Massachusetts aimed at covering most of the state’s estimated 500,000 uninsured residents.

The agenda included:

• Education Session: Balancing State and Federal Health Care Reform, a discussion of how new federal Medicaid mandates could impact local efforts to ensure universal coverage

• Exhibit Fair highlighting community health center programs and services for low-income patients

• Speaking Program of legislative leaders and advocates to mark the historic significance of the state’s health care reform law
