Community Health Center Leader Honored with Award of Excellence During National Conference

BETHESDA, MD – The National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) has honored Michael A. Curry, President and CEO of Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers (MLCHC) in Boston, MA, with the 2024 Norton Wilson State/Regional Leadership Award. The Awards of Excellence are given annually to individuals in the Community Health Center Movement who are innovators in health care delivery, set higher standards for patient care and quality, and have demonstrated leadership and advocacy that advances community health needs. Mr. Curry was presented the award during NACHC’s 2024 Community Health Institute (CHI) & Expo in Atlanta, GA. The annual conference draws thousands of health center leaders from around the country to gather and focus on strategies that expand access to affordable primary care services in underserved communities.

Mr. Curry has been President and CEO of the MLCHC since January 2021, and previously worked at the Mass League as Deputy CEO and prior to that as SVP of Government Affairs. He has spearheaded a great deal of initiatives at the MLCHC in a short period of time, including a student loan repayment program with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that will provide over $300 million in student loan repayment assistance to health care workers in Massachusetts. He has led the creation of the Institute for Health Equity Research Evaluation & Policy which will lead research projects led by community health centers with a key focus on emancipatory research on populations that are often overlooked.

Health centers are the largest primary care network in the U.S., serving 32.5 million people at nearly 1,500 sites nationwide. Health centers promote efficient, high-quality, comprehensive health care that is accessible, culturally and linguistically competent, community directed, and patient-centered for all, regardless of ability to pay.
