Health Center Funding

The high-quality, affordable, comprehensive services health centers provide are funded through a variety of sources. Health centers’ revenue streams include reimbursement from Medicaid, Medicare, private insurance and federal and state grants. This includes grants funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration’s Community Health Center Fund. The main source of federal funding for health centers is the Health Center Program, which is authorized in Section 330 of the Public Health Services Act.

At the federal level, the Mass League’s Government Affairs and Public Policy team supports the National Association of Community Health Centers to secure robust federal funding throughyhtr6y the Health Center Program for both operations and workforce development.

The Government Affairs and Public Policy team works with community health centers to secure grants and other government funding opportunities wherever possible through state level spending bills, city and town budgets. Additional dollars enable health centers to continue delivering value care to the uninsured and underinsured, maintain access to the most vulnerable and marginalized communities, respond to public health crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic, and serve all patients regardless of ability to pay.
