Health Center Workforce

Due to their culturally and linguistically diverse patient population and commitment to hiring from the communities they serve, health centers have a long track record of growing their own workforce. To address their workforce needs, the Mass League and health centers have proposed and supported a variety of legislative policy solutions to increase the supply of providers, diversify the composition of the labor force, and direct the distribution of providers to underserved communities.

Growing the community health care workforce needed for the future is critical to the health center mission and requires innovative requirement and retention tools. The Mass League and health center members have introduced and supported proposals at the state level for provider loan repayment programs, nurse practitioner residency programs, and new graduate medical education programs at community health centers funded by Medicaid. Additionally, the League has put forward proposals to fund clinical hours, internships, preceptors, scholarships, and more.
