Health Center Compliance Academy Now in Session

The Mass League’s Health Center Compliance Academy (HCCA) launched last month. The HCCA is a comprehensive compliance training program prepared and facilitated by compliance subject-matter experts at the Mass League and aimed at addressing gaps in compliance learning at community health centers. The HCCA will offer health center staff low-cost, regular webinars and in-person training that dive deep into compliance topics, provide practical solutions to challenges, and promote a better understanding of federal and state regulatory requirements impacting health center operations.

The HCCA’s inaugural session was held virtually on September 30. It covered requirements and best practices for every step of the health center procurement and contracting process. The Mass League’s Chief Legal and Compliance Officer educated participants on how to navigate federal procurement regulations (with an emphasis on 45 CFR Part 75), draft solicitation requests, structure contracts to include required clauses under federal procurement regulations, remedies clauses, contract termination, audits and recordkeeping, and much more! The Mass League’s Senior Vice President of Business Development and Strategy also joined the webinar to discuss risk areas to be aware of in the contracting process and present a contractual risk identification tool.

Future webinars and in-person trainings on various topics pertinent to all community health centers are being planned. Based on health center staff’s responses to our recent survey, the topics covered over the next year will include risk management and the Federal Tort Claims Act (FTCA), policy and procedure manual preparation, employment practices, and the health center compliance manual and operational site visits.
